COMMUNITY help group STARS has been given a funding boost.
The Rhyl based group has received funding from the Millennium Stadium Trust Fund and Denbighshire County Council’s community revenue fund to promote its junior wardens scheme.

STARS wardens have been working with Ysgol Bodnant in Prestatyn to recr
uit 10 pupils between the ages of nine and 11 to be junior wardens who will be trained on a variety of subjects such as personal safety, and drug and alcohol awareness, while they will also make visits to the police helicopter pad, Prestatyn fire station, Rhyl lifeboat station and Dangerpoint.

Fun activities also include a team building day at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay.

STARS junior warden co-ordinator Jamie Fox-Byrne said the scheme would introduce the children to the role of the community wardens and help them to learn how to solve community problems.

She said: “We feel that this scheme will help the local children work within their own communities and intergenerate with various community groups within the area.”

New uniforms with the STARS / Millennium Stadium Trust logos have been provided to each child.

“STARS would like to thank Prestatyn Town Councillor Sharon Frobisher plus all the staff and parents / guardians of Ysgol Bodnant especially headteacher Mr Blythin for all their help and support with this pilot scheme.”
