A NEW police chief is aiming to make the area a safer place.
Insp Steve Williams has taken over as policing inspector for north Denbighshire, having been based in Rhyl for the majority of his 16 years with North Wales Police.
Since 1996 he has worked with CID and in his new role his objective is drive forward the community policing initiative and put more bobbies on the beat.
He said: "My main aims and objectives will be to continue with the positive work that has been made in the area and to continue to work alongside the partnership agencies in making North Denbighshire a safer place to live, work and visit to the benefit of everyone.
"This will importantly encompass more members of the policing family being out there on the streets, at the times you want them and where you, the public, want them."
Although there have been notable reductions in recorded crimes for violence against a person, robbery and vehicle interference, Insp Williams has also seen the number of arrests rise for possession and supply of controlled drugs.
Insp Williams believes this is the result of the efforts made by officers to tackle the problem and the help of the public.
He said: "This stance will continue with new and innovative tactics being planned and deployed for those who are engaged in such criminality."
The police chief also encouraged the public to use Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to help police tackle the problem of drugs.
He is also keen for the public to have increased contact with officers through the community meetings that are being held in each district.
He added: "The public do have the opportunity to influence policing in their areas and I would encourage them to either attend their community meetings or make contact with their local community beat managers or police community support officers to raise any issues. This can be done either in person, by telephone or via the intranet, accessing the North Wales Police web site."
