A “DANGEROUS” junction has been improved thanks to a campaign.
Residents in Abergele are celebrating after markings were placed on a bus lay-by on Abergele Road between Abergele and Llanddulas.
People have been using the space to park their cars, making it difficult for residents in the nearby Middlegates estate to exit from a lane opposite onto the busy road.
Darren Millar said: “This road safety improvement has been a long time coming but I’m pleased we have finally been able to improve safety for residents pulling onto Abergele Road - this was an accident waiting to happen.
“Cars have been parking in the bus lay-by opposite the lane which leads to a number of houses. This made it difficult for cars to exit the lane and pull out onto a road with traffic often approaching at 60 miles per hour.
“I’m delighted our campaign has been successful.”
Conwy County Borough Council agreed to improve the safety of the junction, which Mr Millar described as “dangerous” by installing the markings to deter cars from parking there.
Cllr Sam Rowlands of the Gele ward, said he was pleased that action had been taken.
He said: “People shouldn’t be parking there. It’s a bus stop and for the people near Middlegates, it’s vital.”
Cllr Rowlands said that not only would the markings make it safer to exit the estate, but it would also make it easier for the busses to operate.
He said: “If the bus can’t pull in because people have parked there because there’s no room, then that can be a problem.
“It’s important for residents and the tourists in the nearby caravan park can get on the bus so they can see the wonderful North Wales Coast.”
