ROAD safety experts are urging pedestrians and cyclists to be careful with darkness now setting in much earlier.
Due to the clocks going back last weekend, people are being encouraged to wear high visibility clothes during dark hours to help motorists spot them.
Motorists are also being advised to be more vigilant with the sun rising later and setting much earlier than they have been used to over the summer.
Gurminder Marwaha of the Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership said: “If you’re a motorist then you’ll know how difficult it can be to see pedestrians and cyclists wearing dark clothes at night or when visibility is poor. It’s important that children are easily seen near traffic, especially as many school uniforms are dark. Selecting a bright coat can help, as can fluorescent and reflective armbands, school bags, badges, stickers and arm straps.”
He added children should be taught to choose routes and crossing places that are well lit and make sure they always use the Green Cross Code.
