EVER fancied diving in at the deep end for a job that gives a new meaning to scales of pay?
Rhyl’s SeaQuarium is looking to employ its own resident mermaid to lure visitors.
To get an interview candidates will need to be a fully-qualified diver, able to tackle various watery tasks such as collecting mermaid’s purses from the bottom of the huge ocean tunnel tank.
Manager of the SeaQuarium Colette Macdonald said: “We want someone who is just itching to make a splash by getting really wet and wild in a specially designed mermaid costume complete with tail which will have to be ordered from the USA.
“It will be a dream job for someone who has always wanted to get up close and personal with sharks, rays, conger eels and our other wonderful sea creatures, all of which can be found around the British coastline, in the crystal clear filtered waters of our tanks."
Mermaid’s purses are actually shark eggs. Some members of the shark family, such as the Seaquarium’s resident dogfish, lay their eggs which then attach themselves to seaweed by long tentacles and which look very much like little purses.
