Bangor 3
Abergele 39

ABERGELE made a flying start to life in the WRU Division 2 North with a convincing bonus point victory over Bangor.

Gele settled any early nerves with an Ashley Wynne try, before a series of successful kicks from Gaz Evans opened up a comfortable margin.

Set pieces provided several chances throughout the match for The Green Army, with Dylan Evans and Simon Hughes combining well on a series of line-outs.

The second try came after skipper Lavin opted for a Gele line-out, with Hughes offering the ball to Alun Pritchard, who powered over the line thanks to a powerful Abergele maul.

A fine break ended with Bobby Jones’ neat footwork securing another try, but Gele suffered a blow in losing winger Aaron Jones with a facial injury as they toiled to find the elusive try to secure the bonus point.

Another line-out again found its target, allowing Pritchard to again take advantage of some powerful play for the score and bonus point, before being denied his hat-trick shortly afterwards after being adjudged to have fallen just short of the line.

Simon Hughes then added a fifth after finding himself in acres of space to cross the line under the posts, following some powerful running from Chris Smith and Gethin Jones, with Gaz Evans again converting.
