NEW boys Rhos Aelwyd maintained their cracking start to life in the Cymru Alliance by grabbing all three points at Memorial Park Fields.

A single goal 10 minutes from time did the trick for the visitors and the result means that Ruthin are now without a win in three league games.

The visitors almost took the lead inside the first minute with Ricky Wright crossing for Ben Jones to fire over when shooting under extreme pressure.

Ruthin spent much of the first half on the front foot, but were kept out by a strong Rhos Aelwyd defensive showing as the game reached half-time goalless.

The early periods of the second half had limited chances for both sides but as the half went on it was Rhos who looked the most likely.

They almost took the lead on the hour mark when Aaron Edwards hammered his shot into the side netting when a ball across the area would have allowed Barry Torrance to tap into an empty net.

At the other end Ruthin were within an ace of opening the scoring when a cracking strike thumped against the crossbar, but it was Rhos Aelwyd who were able to make that all-important breakthrough.

On 80 minutes Mike Burke raced clear after an excellent through ball from debutant Jon Rush to slot home.

Turning to the Wrexham Area League, there was double disappointment as two Ruthin Town sides had their wings clipped.

In the Reserves’ Division, Ryan Harden’s Ruthin Town Reserves were pipped 3-2 in their match against defending champions Airbus UK Reserves.

Ruthin Colts were left grounded as they were handed a narrow 1-0 defeat at Airbus UK Colts over the weekend.

Asa Hamilton grabbed the only goal of the game as Airbus moved into second spot in the Reserves / Colts Division.
