DON your stetson and pull on the cowboy boots - the North Wales Country Music Festival is returning to Llandudno.

Now in its 16th year, the popular event remains the only major theatre based country music festival in the UK calendar.

“We are so lucky to have the support of Conwy County Borough Council and the venue management which in turn enables us to book the very best country acts year after year” said Andy Boggie who with wife Iona is responsible for booking the acts, compering and running the shows .

Over the years they have welcomed such great names as The Bellamy Brothers, Br549, Gail Davies, Heather Miles, Gretchen Peters, Peter Rowan, Chip Taylor and Kathy Chiavola amongst many others from the States and home grown stars like Charlie Landsborough, Joe Brown, Raymond Froggatt and Mary Duff.

Opening this year’s weekend will be festival organisers Iona and Andy who will be performing some old and new material.

Joining them in the Friday night concert will be festival regular BJ Locklin bringing his own brand of music and humour and the five piece English country band Bob Morgan and Western Reunion.

The Saturday concert will feature Ireland’s first lady of country music Susan McCann with her band. From Scotland, John Miller and the Country Casuals will be performing live and returning to the festival by popular demand the English singing sisters The Haleys.

As well as the theatre shows in the evening, Ben’s Bar returns from 12pm on Saturday afternoon.

Running Ben’s Bar are Phil Lloyd and Pete Redfern and will be a relaxed afternoon of country music and chat in the Orme Suite.

So for a finger-picking good weekend of acoustic fun, the North Wales Country Music Festival is a must.
