GUILSFIELD make their home bow with the visit of unbeaten Gap Connahs Quay on Saturday (2.30pm).

The Guils go into the game unbeaten after draws with Rhydymwyn and Rhos Aelwyd, but manager Mike Barton insists the visit of the Deesiders represented his side’s biggest challenge of the season.

“Make no bones about it,” said Barton. “Gap are a top team and were very unfortunate to miss the cut for the Welsh Premier in the end.

“They have strengthened this season and have started really well so we can expect a tough game.”

The match represents the start of a tough week for the Guils who visit Technogroup Welshpool in midweek.

“Welshpool have a completely different side and although we will go into the game as favourites, we must not underestimate them on their own ground.”

Midfielder Gareth Jones is a fitness doubt, while former Newtown goalkeeper Dave Maguire should make his Guilsfield debut.

Before the midweek derby Welshpool must travel to Radnorshire to take on Huws Gray Alliance newboys Rhayader Town.

Welshpool assistant manager Benji Evans said: “There will be local pride at stake and our lads will certainly be up for it.

“The cohesion is getting stronger each week and the new lads that have come in have given us a big boost.”

Rhayader Town assistant manager Tim Broome insists his club is also prepared for the derby.

Midfielder Mike Collister returns along with defender Tom Rockanewski for the first derby of the season at the Weirglodd ground.

“We know nothing of Welshpool after a summer of many changes so we do not really know what to expect,” said Broome.

Caersws start a run of three consecutive home games with the visit of Rhydymwyn on Saturday.

The Bluebirds are flying high in the table after victory at Penrhyncoch lifted them to fourth.

Veteran defender Hugh Clarke continues to struggle with back problems, while midfielder Andy Davies is unavailable.

Manager Mickey Evans said: “It was good to win at Penrhyn and there is a really good atmosphere in the dressing room right now.

“We now have three home games on the trot and the lads want to keep the run going as thanks for the great support we have enjoyed in every game this season.”
