AN EVENT to help a young Abergele woman badly hurt in a car crash has raised more than £1,000.

A sponsored walk which took place last week saw members of the Abergele community support Bethan Williams, 18, who was treated at a specialist neurological ward in Liverpool following an accident in July.

A group of 13 people walked from Prestatyn to Abergele and met up at the Departure Lounge to take part in a raffle which featured donated prizes such as hair care vouchers and tickets for the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

Bethan’s mother Cheryl, 41 from Abergele, said that she was “overwhelmed” with the support the family had received.

She said: “We just want to thank everyone, Abergele businesses, our family and friends and our colleagues as well, especially at Glan Clwyd Hospital.

“You don’t really realise till something like this happens how kind and helpful people are. Nothing was too much trouble for them.”

She said that Bethan, who spent time in Walton Hospital in Liverpool and then in Glan Clwyd Hospital, was on the mend after returning home at the start of August.

Sister Jenna, 22, said: “It was really nice to see everyone at the Departure Lounge. Bethan’s absolutely made up with what everyone’s done for her. She can’t believe it.”

The money raised by the event, which was arranged by family friend Hollie Roberts, 21, will be split between the neurological ward in Liverpool and a fund to help towards a new car for Bethan.

Hollie said: “It was a long day, very tiring, but it was worth it. We’re pleased by the what we’ve raised so far. I counted what we got on the day and added up what people have pledged, and all together it will come to over £1000.”

Hollie added: “We would like to thank Lyn at the Departure Lounge for putting loads of food on for us."
