PUPILS at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan are celebrating after recording the school’s best ever set of GCSE results.

55% of the school’s pupils achieved a grade A* - C, an increase of 5% compared to last year’s results.

Of particular note were the results of Huw Macdonald, who achieved an outstanding nine A*s and an A, and Victoria Evans, who got four A*s, five As and a C.

Sallie Goosey, Head of Year 11 at Emrys ap Iwan, said she was delighted to share the outstanding results with the pupils.

“I’m delighted with the results and very proud of the achievements of all the students,” she said.

“It’s been a pleasure to share their excitement today – the smiles are infectious!”

Headteacher Nayland Southorn was pleased that the school maintained their trend of improving on GCSE performances.

“These are superb results which sustain the year-on-year improvements in the school’s public examination performances,” he said.

“They are just reward for the hard work, skill and perseverance of so many of our students.

“The results are also remarkable in that this particular Year 11 group consists of two-thirds boys and one-third girls, and our best ever scores indicates how well boys have done alongside the girls.
