PRESTATYN TOWN 1 HAVERFORDWEST 0
STAR Jon Hill-Dunt was the hero of this storming victory as battling Prestatyn got their home campaign off to a triumphant start at Bastion Gardens.
The Prestatyn keeper pulled off a spectacular second half penalty save to deny dangerous Haverfordwest an equaliser after Lee Hunt had given Prestatyn the lead following a swift break involving Steve Hoult and Ross Stephens.
But it looked like being negated when defender Jack Lewis was adjudged to have handled on the line to keep out a Danny Thomas back header just before the hour mark.
Jack Christopher struck his spot kick firmly enough but Hill-Dunt guessed correctly as he flung himself sideways to pull off a stunning save that proved to be worth two precious points. The keeper was again in action, denying both Mark Dodds and Christopher again scoring chances with more inspired saves as the visitors upped the tempo in the second half.
Kai Edwards, signed on loan from Wrexham, had a notable home debut and was unlucky not to grab a late second for the seasiders as they finished as they had started, on the front foot.
Player-manager Neil Gibson was delighted with both the performance and the result after last week’s drubbing against TNS.
He said: “We knew it was going to be another severe test and so it proved. We worked really hard, as we needed to, and I was especially pleased to see us preserve a clean sheet whilst still creating chances for ourselves.”
