STUDENTS at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru are thrilled with their "outstanding" A-level results.

The overall pass rate for the college - which now includes Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor following a merger earlier this year - was 98.8 per cent, putting it well above the national average of 97.1 per cent.

Students managed to secure 100 per cent pass rates in 33 subjects, with more than three quarters of college attendees achieving A-C grades.

Shannon Bolger, 19, from Llandudno, was also delighted to hear that her A, A, B grades have secured her a place to study Law at Chester University.

She said: “I’m so pleased. I’ve got in to my first choice place at university so it’s a fantastic result for me.”

Abigail Farebrother, 18 from Colwyn Bay, gained an A grade in Sociology and C grades in English and Psychology, and will be going to Bangor University to study Sociology in the autumn.
“I can't believe it," said Abigail. "It's been a really tough year but I'm really happy now. I really enjoyed my course and time at College”

Mature students Gill Jones from Anglesey, Linda Loughead from Glan Conwy and Phyl Evans from Deganwy were also pleased with their results after all of them gained an A* for their Photography A-level.

Phyl said: “I have always loved photography and was the chairperson of a local photography club. I came to College to learn about the technical side and give myself a challenge.”

Huw Evans OBE, Principal at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, congratulated the students involved; describing their grades as "outstanding", and a "credit to both students and staff".

He added: “The majority of these students will be progressing to universities across the country and many will be continuing their College experience and progressing on to Degrees and Foundation Degrees at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru.”
