PRESTATYN High School has produced “results to be proud of” with 109 students celebrating A-level passes.

The school reported that the class of 2010 gained an overall pass rate of 94% in 27 different subjects.

A further 25 students completed the advanced Welsh Baccalaureate, the equivalent of an A grade at A-level and 22 more achieved advanced level success in vocational qualifications in Public Services or Sport, including 9 distinctions.

Head teacher Phil Pierce said: “Achieving high grades at A-level reflects hard work and commitment.

“I am so pleased for our students who deserve their success for all the effort over two long years or more. Thanks to all the PHS staff who have worked so hard to make this happen and to the families who have got behind their sons and daughters during what we all know is such a stressful time.

“We wish them well on the next exciting stage of their journeys.”

Madeleine Whyler was the “star performer”, achieving an outstanding two of the new A* grades in Biology and Maths and an A in Chemistry, opening the way for her to study medicine at Glasgow University.

Other top achievers included Simon Williams who gained three A grades in Business, Computing, and Maths, a C in Physics and a WBQ pass, Amel Chaudhry with a three A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and a WBQ pass, Emma Manifold who earned an A* in Geography, an A in Economics and a B in History.

A number of students, including Danny Shone who earned an A in Business, A in Maths, B in ICT and a WBQ pass, Ashlea Hooper with an A in History, a B in ICT two C grades in English and French and a WBQ pass and Emma Duffy with an A in Maths, a B in French and a C in Physics, also saw their hard work rewarded.

Mr Pierce said: “Although we celebrate with the highest achievers, as a school we believe in giving everyone a chance and enter borderline students as well as those guaranteed of success.

“Sometimes those who just scrape through deserve as many plaudits given the distance they have come from their GCSEs.”

The school is inviting the public to see what is on offer next year at an enrolment session at 1.45pm on September 2.
