THERE were mixed feelings as a Catholic high school celebrated excellent A Level performances.

Blessed Edward Jones High School, Rhyl, reported that its last ever cohort of sixth form students had achieved outstanding results.

Gary Sugrue, acting Headteacher, said: “Success is tinged with sadness as the sixth form at Blessed Edward Jones is now no longer but despite many challenges the school is rightly proud of our students, their hard work and the support of their parents over the years.”

Head Boy, Liam Roberts, achieved two A grades in English Literature and French and an A* in Chemistry.

Liam has earned a place at Liverpool University where he will study French.

Head Girl, Mikaela Gabarda achieved an A* in Art and Design and two grade Cs in Maths and French.

Shane Green gained two Grade Bs in Maths and Biology and a C in French.

Ashley Hughes scooped two Grade Bs in Geography and English Literature and a Grade C in Biology.

Hayden Martin, achieved an A Grade in Physics and two Grade Bs in Maths and Biology.

The overall pass rate from grades A* to C was 55 per cent while 90 per cent of pupils gained a grade between A and E.

Blessed Edward Jones is due to be absorbed into a new £3.5 million college facility linked to Coleg Llandrillo from September.

Mr Sugrue said: “All our students did well, with successes in at least one A Level subject, and all have won places at University or on the Higher Education course of their choosing.

“Congratulations and good luck to the students in their future careers.”
