A FAMILY has paid tribute to a Belgrano father of two killed in a motorcycle accident.

Jeremy Daffern, 43, was described as “the best dad” by children Jak, 16, and Dani, 14.

Mr Daffern, known locally as Jez, died after a crash with a pick-up truck while riding at Groes near Denbigh on August 8.

Mother Dawn Daffern, 75 of Abergele, said: “Our family is devestated by his loss. He was a very strong family man and a son to be proud of. He lived for his children. We all have our special memories of him that we will keep in our hearts forever.

“We would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support in this sad time.”

Jak recently moved back to live with his father after living with his mother in Brighton and said: “Dad always made the effort to see us, no matter what.”

“There is no-one I loved more than my dad. He was everything to me. He was very protective of us and I felt really safe around him, because he was the type of person who never backed down.

Mr Daffern also shared his interest in motorbikes and cars with his children, who rode pillion with their father from a young age.

Jak said: “He was a unique person, always doing stuff that others wouldn’t think of. He would go out of his way to help people and he was always doing practical jokes.

His children’s mother Nicola said: “He was a very sentimental man. His house was his castle and everything was about his kids. He always said they were his best achievement and he will live on through them.”

Mr Daffern suffered a brain tumour four years ago but made a remarkable recovery.

Mr Daffern was brought up in Rhyl but moved to Belgrano 21 years ago. He worked for several companies as a heavy goods driver and as a doorman in various venues in Rhyl.

Daughter Dani said: “He loved memories and holidays and he kept everything. He loved our horse Colby and used to ride him pretending he was an experienced rider when in fact he had never ridden before in his life.”

The funeral took place on Wednesday at St Thomas’ Church, Rhyl, at 12.15pm.
