THE Tir Prince raceway in Towyn is to end its programme of harness racing, the group’s directors have announced.
The Tir Prince Group will not be applying to host race meets at the course for next year after indicating that the events have become financially unviable.
Director David Senior said: “We’re not closing the track, we’re just not going to be applying for dates next year, then if possible others will apply for dates and hire the track,” said Tir Prince director David Senior, whose venue is considered the best track in country for the sport providing a full half-mile floodlit hard track.
“I know it’s what we became known for, but over the years it’s become a small part for the Tir Prince group commercially.
S4C broadcasts live Harness Racing from Tir Prince Raceway as part of its Rasus programme.
“We still have one of the best tracks in Britain, and it’s not a descision that has been taken lightly.”
Tir Prince Director David Senior made the announcement on Monday night, but stressed that the Tir Prince park will be continuing as usual.
“The Tir Prince leisure group continues to thrive and grow, we’ve recently purchased a new holiday park that we hope to do some nice things with.”
