A FORMER top nightspot in Rhyl could soon be re-opening after an application for a bar licence was lodged.
Bar Blu, which ran for five years as a bar, club and live music venue, is the subject of a licence bid from North Wales Leisure Ltd.
The club established a reputation as one of Rhyl’s top venues, undergoing a major refurbishment in 2007 by the same team behind one of Peter Stringfellow’s London clubs.
But tough times forced the landmark building to close it’s doors in January 2008, and the site has since been left unoccupied despite it’s premier location on Rhyl high street.
Club promoter Steve Rastin, who worked with the club during it’s glory years, welcomed the news of it’s relaunch.
“The town needs it, there are too many premises closing at the moment,” he said.
“Blu’s been closed for 2 1/2 years now and I think people have been really missing it.
“Theres every chance it could be restored to it’s former glory, it’s been closed for so long that people will get nostalgic about it.
“In the past, when a club closes and then reopens, people dont get time to miss it.
The new licence would allow the premises to begin business again and remain open until 3am.
