RHYL have been busy preparing for the new Cymru Alliance campaign this week, with progress made both on and off the field.

The Lilywhites acquitted themselves well against a Blackburn Rovers XI on Saturday despite losing 2-0.

Although most household names were absent for Rovers, they did field a handful of senior squad members including Georgian international Zurab Khizanishvili. Nick Blackman gave Rovers the lead after an hour and sealed the victory in stoppage time, moments after Andy Pearson had seen his equaliser disallowed for offside.

One of the positives to emerge from the afternoon was the performance of Australian goalkeeper Anthony Costa, who has signed on a permanent basis after impressing during his trial stint with the Lilywhites.

Former The New Saints and Bala Town forward John Toner has also put pen to paper at Belle Vue after featuring in the club’s pre-season campaign, along with three talented youngsters as player-manager Greg Strong puts the finishing touches to his squad.

Ex-Buckley Town full-back Rees Darlington, former Macclesfield Town midfielder Scott Beckett and forward Michael Pritchard have all joined Rhyl ahead of the new season starting at home to Caersws on August 14.

Rhyl’s planned pre-season friendly at Witton Albion last Tuesday was cancelled due to the bad weather. The Lilywhites were due to visit neighbours Prestatyn Town last night (Tuesday).

There will be a rare chance for Rhyl to enjoy visiting Football League opposition on Saturday, when the Lilywhites are away to League Two side Macclesfield Town (kick-off 1pm).
