A MAN was robbed and injured after being attacked near Pensarn beach.
Amusement arcade manager Ray Poole, was treated for head injuries at Glan Clwyd Hospital after the incident shortly after midnight on Monday, July 12.
Former paratrooper Mr Poole, 47, had a substantial amount of money, reported to be £300, stolen during the robberty when he was hit on the back of the head after crossing the cobbled bridge towards the beach.
The nature of the attack has shocked the Pensarn community.
Cllr Jean Stubbs, of Pensarn ward on Abergele Town Council, said the incident came as a surprise as the promenade and beach were generally peaceful.
She added: “Sadly things like this do happen - though they shouldn’t happen anywhere at any time of day. It would be a shame for something like this to spoil things before the start of the season.”
Her colleague in Pensarn, Cllr Ken Sudlow, said attacks of this nature were very unusual.
He said: “It’s not a regular occurance. Obviously we don’t want this kind of thing because of the impact on tourism. Pensarn beach is a very popular area.”
Mr Poole has been unavailable for direct comment this week, but he has been quoted in media reports that he has not been put off going out following the incident.
