A PENSIONER is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car.

Dai Price, 75, described by locals in Caerwys as a community stalwart, was injured in the accident outside the Piccadilly Inn just after 11pm.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic collision outside the Piccadilly Inn, Caerwys, involving a male who is believed to have been struck by a vehicle. An ambulance and rapid response vehicle attended the incident.

“The patient was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital with a suspected head injury, cuts to the head and pain to chest and ribs.”

North Flintshire police inspector Iwan Roberts said Mr Price had since been transferred to Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool where his condition is described as serious.

Caerwys councillor Jim Falshaw said Mr Price was very well known in the town.

He told the Leader: “He is such a nice man. He does everything for people, mowing their lawns and getting their papers for no reward.

“He is very well known in the community. He is such a lovely chap. I just hope he makes a full recovery.”

Mr Price lives in the town with his wife Margaret.

A spokesman at the Piccadilly Inn, said: “Everyone knows him.

“He’s a local character and a very nice gentleman.

“Everyone’s thoughts are with him and we just all hope he’s going to be ok.”

The driver of the car is currently helping police with their inquires.

Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses. Anyone with information should call North Wales Police on the non-emergency 101 number.

Thoughts go out to Mrs Price, family and friends. Time for 20 mph zones in Flintshire communities.
