AN ABERGELE infants' school will head to London this week in the hope of winning a prestigious national award.
Members of the Ysgol Glan Gele leadership team will attend the glittering Times Education Supplement Schools Awards (TESSAS) on Thursday at the Grosvenor Park House Hotel, as the Abergele school again enjoys national recognition.
The school is one of the six finalists from across Britain for the Outstanding Leadership Team Award, having demonstrated positive qualities in helping provide attractive learning methods for pupils.
Julia Buckley Jones, headteacher, said: “We are thrilled that the hard work and dedication of the Ysgol Glan Gele team has been recognised in the TESSAS.
“As a management team we work tirelessly to give our pupils the best start to their education ensuring they are happy and eager to learn, while also enabling them to reach their full potential."
The awards are in their second year and attract high quality nominations in 15 categories, with judges saying they are looking for schools “with that extra spark of originality and passion for education".
The school has frequently reached the final of major awards for schools, most recently last week when employee Eleri Parry claimed the distinction (runner-up) award in the Teaching Assistant of the Year category in the Teaching Awards for Wales at Cardiff.
Another Abergele representative, Sian Lewis of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, was commended in the Outstanding New Teacher of the Year category.
