A spokesman for Powys County Council said: “The Severn Valley Built Heritage Fund is part of the Severn Valley Regeneration Programme and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Welsh Assembly Government and Powys County Council.

“The programme, which is scheduled to be completed by 2013, aims to improve the physical environment of three major communities in the Severn Valley.

“Welshpool, Newtown, and Llanidloes and the wider Severn Valley will benefit from the scheme to transform town centre streets through improvements to shop fronts and commercial properties as well as new street furniture and landscaping.

“Improvements are also planned for town links making it easier for visitors and residents to get to town centres from bus and railway stations.”

“Regeneration plans to offer modern high quality business park environments by extending Offa’s Dyke Business Park near Welshpool and developing a new business park at Abermule are already well underway.”
