Local community plea to turn Wrexham Miners’ Institute into arts and entertainment centre

A WREXHAM woman is calling on people from the area to join her quest to turn the Miners’ Institute into a prestigious centre for the arts and entertainment that would put the town on the cultural map in grand fashion.

Caroline Wheeler, of Acton, said that she has put in a great deal of hard work researching options for turning the disused building into a thriving hub of the community.

Now she feels ready to press ahead with the next stage of her plan and ask for support from residents across the county.

“I think this could be massive for Wrexham. I have spoken to many people about the possibilities and there is a lot of enthusiasm for reviving the Institute,” she said.

Mrs Wheeler stressed that the final details of the plans would need to be decided by the people who agreed to come on board and give support to the scheme.

But the essential driving force is to bring the building into a 21st century centre for music, entertainment, celebrations and performing arts that everyone in Wrexham could be proud of.

“The scheme could cause such a big stir in the town, right across North Wales and beyond. This is something which would be so positive for Wrexham.

“There are many exciting ideas. It would help to revive community spirit and be a massive part in the social life of the region.”

Mrs Wheeler said that she would be very interested in talking to other people expressing an interest in the scheme and wanting further details. It may be possible that a form of community ownership could be organised to take the future of the building forward.

“At the moment I can’t give a timescale, but I can say it is important that we act as soon as possible to get everything in place.

“It is vital that we act quickly.”

    where have all the posts gone,gone ,gone everyone, when will we ever learn,when ,when ,when.This may be due to an error but if it is because of anti muslim comments then i am disgusted with this newspaper,as people can see from my past posts on this site i am far from right wing,its only by debating and pointing out peoples strange views that we can change peoples opionions.

    These are my comments from yesterday that were surprisingly deleted? “I think that an arts centre celebrating Wrexham’s rich history of mining would be a more culturally appropriate use of the building than a mosque designed to accommodate 800 worshipers! This is my humble opinion…..If you have a problem with my opinion, don’t delete it….lets debate it..!

    leader reader ,i always leave something for you to react to.This person is the type of person i was referring to in my previous comment,lf you look at his comments,ie ukip story 6/5,youll see what rants and raves this type of racist is capable of but it is only with open debate that these people can be shown for what they are,if people do fear a mosque let us talk about it not sweep it under the carpet.

    Blah, blah, blah, blah, liberty1 you just keep talking out of your backside all the time, people need to look at the bigger picture here? you make comments, in the ukip story 6/5 and he thinks it's very funny for someone to nearly die in a plane crash, but I was just stating some facts regarding eastern Europeans coming to this country, with have many British people who are unemployed and have been out of work for month’s maybe years.

    But all the government seems to be doing is letting more people in, and not sorting out the people who already live here, we have our schools, and hospitals etc, full to breaking point, but who cares, let’s let more people into this country, and let’s see Britain crack.     CAPO LETTORE,Take a walk round wxm and see the benefit culture which we have ,2nd,3nd generation welfare families ,foreigners,great excuse for these lazy people not to get a job,even when wxm had the pits,steel,factories these lot would still not get off their backsides,do you spend allday in Weatherspoons?maybe that is the medication your on.

    Hopefully with the new government in place it will sort out these lazy benefit scroungers, and start getting the British people back into work, and sort out immigration. We need to put the Great back into Great Britain, and put the British people first for a change and stop many people like yourself, sticking your head in the sand, I do believe the medication you are taking is making you talk utter crap all the time.

    Ive just spend all weekend doing a shut down job,the only Wxm lads interested wanted to do it on the side,plus they wanted £10 an hr for labouring work,we took on 2 Polish at £8 an hour with workers reg cards/certs via the JC,they worked damn hard and earned their money and we gave them a bonus,learn the hard facts about economics-lazy b*****d= no pay

The thing is we where on about foreigners, you don't see any polish doctors or nurse in Wrexham Maelor Hospital only the ones cleaning up the S*** or just taking our hospital beds which should be used for people from this country, and not them!.
