Cllr Dave Holland

A COUNTY councillor has resigned from the Conservative party.

Cllr Dave Holland, who has represented the Abergele-Pensarn ward on Conwy County Council for the last two years, will become an Independent councillor.

In an email explaining his resignation that has been made public on fellow Conwy County Councillor Jason Weyman’s online blog, Cllr Holland said: “I have struggled with my Conservative role and often found myself saying ‘I’m not really a Conservative’.

Cllr Holland said the final straw came when the county council voted on budget issues last week.

He said: “I will always believe that everyone should vote the way they feel is right but I felt that some of our group, who voted, voted politically, which is their right but they gave no alternative suggestions.”

A bit of a shambles for the Tories, but Labour must not regain Clwyd West or they will secure another Commons majority. People can safely vote Tory to stop them without giving Cameron and Osborne their own majority, whereas further down the Tory target list in Vale of Clwyd a Tory vote is too risky. A win there probably means a Tory Commons majority, so in Vale of Clwyd Labour must be supported to stop them.
