GUIDES, Brownies and Rainbows took over Rhyl Town Hall last week to celebrate Girl Guiding UK’s centenary.
World Thinking Day is one of the most important days in the group’s calendar and with this year being its 100th birthday, more than 300 girls from Rhyl and Prestatyn made an extra special effort with a day of performances on Sunday, February 21.
Anna Patterson, Girlguiding UK’s district commissioner for Rhyl, said: “The girls took over the town hall. The atmosphere was brilliant, it was really good. All of the girls really enjoyed it. Each group did a dance or a song, they loved it.”
Girls from Rhyl also took part in a world-wide amateur radio broadcast and were able to talk with guides from other countries.
Ms Paterson said: “The idea of it is to give the girls the chance to talk on the radio and hopefully contact other girl guides all over the world.
“For this event we obtained a special license which has a call sign, and with it being the girl guide centenary this year Ofcom gave an extra special call sign for stations connected with girl guides. Our furthest contact was in Canada where the girls got to talk to a lady from the Trefoil Guild, the section of guiding for over 65s.”
