DOG owners have been warned by Denbigh police to clear up after their pet now an anti dog fouling campaign backed by the Free Press is rolled out into more towns and villages.
The strong message comes after Denbigh Safety Group Chairman and town councillor Rob Parkes expressed his disgust at the recent increase in dog fouling.
Cllr Parkes said: "The massive increase in the amount of dog fouling in the streets of Denbigh since the turn of the new year is bordering on outrageous.
"I have been made aware of over five different areas of Denbigh where the selfish act of leaving dog mess for others to clean up has increased to new lengths."
"I only have to walk down my own street this week to see numerous piles of the stuff left by bad owners,as it is unfair to blame the animals on this subject."
In April, Denbigh police joined forces with the Free Press to launch the name and shame campaign which targeted dog owners in Denbigh who did not clear up their dog mess.
Owners were warned if they were caught red handed or through cctv footage they would be fined £75 and their name and photograph would appear in the Free Press.
Sergeant Andy Hunter said the campaign saw an increase in targeted patrols in key locations at specific times to correspond when people were most likely to walk their dog.
Sgt Hunter said: "In some instances we simply observed dog owners to ensure they were cleaning up after their pets and on others we actually approached them and asked to see what means they had with them to pick up any mess that would otherwise be left behind.
“We also handed out some bags to dog walkers in order to promote responsible ownership.
“The result was a dramatic decrease in dog fouling in the Denbigh area.
"Sadly I have seen an increase in recent weeks and only last week a man from Henllan was issued with a fixed penalty for £75 but on this occasion he will not be named and shamed as up until now only households in Denbigh were included in the pilot area.
“This will now be extended to include Henllan, Trefnant, Nant Glyn, Llandyrnog, Llanrhaeadr and surrounding areas, so you have been warned."
The police sergeant urged members of the public to report to the police in confidence areas where this is a problem and the times dog owners are present in the area.

If you live in Trefnant, Henllan Llandyrnog, Llanrhaeadr or Nant Glyn contact PCSO Martyn Nash on 07896171410 or email at Martyn.Nash@nthwales.pnn.police.uk
Sgt Hunter added: "Although discarded dog fouling regularly features in complaints to local officers it is a minority of dog owners who are responsible.
“The public can also access the Balance the Bobbies section of the North Wales Police internet site and report other anti social issues to local officers."
