THE mother of a Prestatyn boy who died after a "chain reaction" of illnesses has paid an emotional tribute during his inquest.

Thomas Holloway died aged eight at Liverpool's Alder Hey children's hospital on November 28 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

His mother Emma described him as an "amazing boy" and said it was a privilege to spend eight fantastic years with him.

The inquest in Liverpool heard how Thomas had been diagnosed with viral tonsillitis three days before his death, but was then rushed back to his GP the next day after he was struggling to breathe.

He was then sent to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd where he was diagnosed with laryngitis and tonsillitis and discharged after being given antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory spray.

Later that day Thomas was found to be unresponsive and not to be breathing on the floor by his dad Brendon and he was rushed to hospital.

He was transferred to Alder Hey, but he did not recover.

Coroner André Rebello ruled that Thomas died of natural causes caused by a bacterial infection and the influenza virus which developed into pneumonia.

He said: "The bacterial infection superimposed on a viral infection started a chain reaction which resulted in Thomas' death. The majority would get better from such infections, but Thomas took an extreme reaction."

Dr George Kokai, head of paediatric pathology at Alder Hey said it appeared Thomas' body shut down due to an infection and that he was a nourished and cared for boy.

During the inquest mum Emma said: "Thomas was an amazing boy. I was privileged to spend eight fantastic years with him and I never had anything bad to say about him. Every time I think about him I smile. He made us so happy and I miss him so much."
