RHYL'S weather beaten roads could be in line for repair after a pothole funding boost.
Cash to fix damage caused by the recent cold-snap has been announced by the Welsh Assembly Government with Denbighshire set for a slice of £2.75m of extra funding. County councillor Ian Armstrong, who represents Rhyl West, said there had already been some improvement in the area but more funding is needed.
He said: “The hope now is that Denbighshire can get the funding, it is up to highways to apply for it. The more money they can get, the better. Some of the roads are quite bad.
“I am hoping Denbighshire will take the whole county into consideration and spend any funding equally. We have problems here. The Highways Department has started to make repairs.”
The money will be shared throughout Wales and is in addition to the annual grant allocated and will allow work to start straight away.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister, said: “This extra money will help local authorities address the problems caused by the recent unforeseen weather conditions.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Local Government Association said: “The WLGA welcomes the £2.75m boost announced by the Assembly Government to tackle potholes.
"However, whilst the Assembly Government mentions that this money is in addition to the £5m Local Roads Maintenance Grant, sadly this time last year this grant, which was originally £15m, was cut by £10m in this financial year’s Assembly budget.”
