HAVING represented his region and his country in the past fortnight Newtown striker Jamie Breese is now leading the Robins push for Super 12 qualification, continuing with their home clash with Llanelli on Saturday (2.30pm).
The teenager from Abermule has risen to prominence this season with manager Darren Ryan a big fan of the former Wrexham and Shrewsbury Town apprentice.
Breese is also grateful to Ryan for his continued support in a season vital to the future plans of Newtown Football Club.
This weekend sees title contenders Llanelli visit Latham Park, with the Robins looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games.
Breese said: “Newtown has been a great place for me to develop and I have so much respect for Darren Ryan and his assistant Rhys Stephens.
“Darren has given me chances to get out on the pitch and show what I can do and I am desperate to repay him and the club by helping us into the top 10.”
Breese may have to be content with a place on the substitutes bench for the visit of Andy Legg’s full-time Llanelli side, with recent signing Paul Roberts likely to get the nod.
However Breese said: “I don’t mind if I am used as a substitute, or start. My attitude has always been to give it my all in every game I play. The most important thing is we get a run going and points on the board to secure a top 10 finish.”
Ryan is confident that his side can continue the form shown in their last two matches as they take on the title chasing south Walians.
He said: “They are a good team. They’re going for the title and we’ve just got to try and stop them playing and do our own thing. It will be difficult but we’ve had two clean sheets since we started back playing again and that’s given us confidence and we have to take that into this Saturday.”
He added: “We have got a hard run coming up, Llanelli, TNS and Rhyl, the three big ones, but there’s no saying why we can’t match them. We drew at TNS, we should’ve drawn at Llanelli and we should’ve got something out of the Rhyl game.
“Training has been great, everyone’s in a positive mood and while I was disappointed with the first half against Carmarthen I felt we played a lot better in the second.”
