A RHYL Kung Fu kid has made rapid strides in the discipline.

Leon Allen, seven, has been awarded the coveted accolade of student of the year for the Rhyl club of Brian Nelson’s Lau Gar Kung Fu club for 2009.

The Ysgol Llywelyn pupil has been training with the club for the last two and a half years and holds a third grade orange belt.

Leon, who is now working hard towards achieving green belt status, has joined the family tradition by being awarded student of the year as his older sister, Sophie, and father, Sean, have both previously claimed the prize.

Club spokesman Gary Morris said: “Leon really enjoys training and entering competitions with all the other students at Rhyl and North Wales.”

For details on joining classes, contact Brian on 07784125614, visit www.bknlaugar.co.uk or call in at Rhyl Lau Gar Kung Fu, Tynewydd Road Community Centre, Tynewydd Road, Rhyl, on Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm.
