A SECOND World War veteran has blasted a council in a wrangle over a broken fence at his Prestatyn home.
Strong winds badly damaged the six-foot fence at the bottom of Demetrius Connelly's garden and he says Denbighshire County Council should fix it because they put it up.
The wooden fence was built about five years ago by the council to separate the back of Mr Connelly's garden in Conwy Grove from a cycling track created behind it.
But the pensioner now fears he will have to fork out for the repairs because of the uncertainty grows over who is responsible for the structure.
Mr Connelly, a former engineer with Rhuddlan Borough Council who served with both the navy and army during the war, said: "This situation is causing me a lot of trouble. The quality of the fence was pretty shoddy, with two of the panels blowing rights off into my garden when the wind was strong.
"Denbighshire County Council put this in and it should be their responsibility to resolve the matter. But I have not had any success when speaking to the council over the phone.
"I fought for my country and I find it very sad that Denbighshire are not willing to help me about this."
Widower Mr Connelly, who has lived in the house since moving to the area 40 years ago, has had to prop items against the fence to prevent it collapsing, as his anger at the situation continues to grow.
A spokeswoman for Denbighshire County Council said the authority was currently investigating who was responsible for the fence. An officer had visited the site following the damage.
