A FORMER cancer patient from Prestatyn is taking part in a series of challenging events to celebrate being in remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma – a cancer of the immune system.
Martin King-Sheard, 34, was diagnosed with the cancer in May 2008 and treated at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan. After being put in remission in January 2009, he decided to organise his own ‘Marti-thon’ where he is hoping to raise £5,000 for the Lymphoma Association, a charity that supports people affected by lymphatic cancer.
Martin said: “The Marti-thon consists of eight challenges, one for each of the eight sessions of chemotherapy that I had.
“It’s my chance to thank the Lymphoma Association for all the help that they have given me and to raise money for them so that they can raise awareness and help more people who have been affected by the cancer.”
His adventurous challenges including doing a 160ft bungee jump, two triathlons, a three day bike ride, a tandem skydive with his wife Sally and climbing the 15 peaks in Snowdonia.
Martin has already raised over £700 for the Lymphoma Association.
