A FORMER teacher who turned his hobby into a full-time career is running a photography exhibition in Prestatyn.

Tony Griffiths, of Melyd Avenue, Prestatyn, is curating a free exhibition by members of Rhyl Photographic Society at Prestatyn Library.

The 62-year-old was headteacher at Brynford Primary School, Holywell, for 17 years before taking early retirement to pursue his passion for photography.

He said: “I was a teacher and when I took early retirement I branched out. I have been at the club for 30 years. I decided to open a shop in Denbigh which sells picture frames and also my own work. It is a bit like a gallery.

“I like the creative side. You can create mood and atmosphere. I really enjoy it. I used to do a lot of darkroom work in black and white.”

The exhibition includes a variety of work from club members and features landscapes, wildlife and pictorial work.

The club, which has 35 members, meets on a weekly basis between September to April.

Mr Griffiths, who is exhibition secretary, said: “We want to encourage those who are interested in photography to come along. We cater for everyone including beginners. We run workshops, have visiting lecturers and hold competitions, all in a friendly atmosphere.

"Currently, our members’ photographic interests comprise of monochrome and colour work, colour transparencies, and many members are embarking and learning the processes involved in digital imaging.”
