THE wish of a late Rhyl mum for her family to have a Christmas holiday has been realised.

Claire Roberts, of Victoria Road, Rhyl, passed away after a battle with cancer in September aged 35, and her three sons Connor 15, Riley 11 and Keane, nine and husband Roger, 41, are devastated at the prospect of spending Christmas without her.

Thanks to a huge fundraising effort by local businesses, family, friends and regulars at the Swan Inn a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida is set to go ahead.
Rhyl councillor Pat Jones, Roger's aunt, said: "Claire was so brave. Her wish was that they could have a holiday.

They were going to go before she died. The children did not want to be here for Christmas without their mum. Claire loved her sons."

Fundraising activities included a bus pull along Rhyl Promenade, a raffle, auction and a number of events held at the Sawn Inn, including a sponsored head shave and chest wax.

Mrs Jones said: "The family has been taken aback. It is wonderful the support we have had, we cannot thank people enough. We raised enough to spend them to Disney World. The whole community has helped.

"Claire was so brave. She was a wonderful and kind person, all she thought about was her family and friends. She fought right to the end."

Amanda Phelan, landlady at the Swan Inn, said: "The night was fantastic. It was packed, it was the second busiest night we have had. The support was fantastic.

We could not have got another person in the place. The holiday is definitely going ahead. The family has been left devastated. It is hard because the children are young."

Claire's step daughter Natasha, 20, and her partner will meet up with the family during the trip.

A signed Dirk Kuyt Liverpool FC shirt still up for grabs after the auction with offers of around £150 being considered.

If you would like to bid for the shirt or donate money to the fund you can contact the Swan Inn on 01745 336694.
