RESIDENTS have hit out proposals to transform their village seeing it triple in size within the next 12 years.
Denbighshire County Council's proposals to build more than 1700 new homes and industrial units in Bodelwyddan have been unveiled in its draft local development plan (LDP) causing outrage among some residents as homes and businesses stand empty.
The village has been designated as a "key strategic site" and a flood of new housing, employment opportunities, open space and community facilities are planned for it from now until 2021.
But some consider the site too large and doubt the need for homes and industrial sites.
According to the 2001 census, Bodelwyddan has 895 homes.
Under the strategic plans 1,715 homes - 30 to 40 per cent affordable - will be built, along with community facilities, shops, roads and business accommodation.
Resident Alice Jones has set up a action group with other members of the community including her husband Richard, to fight the plans.
The spokeswoman for The Bodelwyddan Development Action Group said: “These plans are going to change the character of the village.
“We believe Bodelwyddan residents have been kept in the dark. Pressure will be placed on local services not only here in Bodelwyddan but on neighbouring towns.
Councillor John Williams reckoned opinion was divided among residents over the plans.
“Some residents are for some are against.
“There is a lot of ill feeling in Bodelwyddan about it. I am against it.
“This is far too big for one area.”
Residents have until the end of November to give their views on the plan at various roadshows for more information visit
Bodelwyddan Village Hall hosts an LDP coffee and information morning this Saturday between 10am and noon followed by a Public Meeting on Monday, September 28, from 7.30pm.
A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: "The Local Development Plan is key to providing land for new homes; land for jobs, open space, community facilities and in helping to protect those things which make our county unique: our environment, wildlife, landscape and built heritage.
"It is therefore essential that we get your views as once adopted the Local Development Plan will be used to make decisions on planning applications in the County. The Council has arranged a series of exhibitions to give you the chance to have your say on the Local Development Plan."
There will be a chance for residents to have their say and view the plans at Bodelwyddan Commkunity centre on October 5 between 2pm and 8pm.
