A MAN who was named Rhyl’s “superhero” earlier this year helped replace the staff microwave at the town’s Royal Alexandra Hospital Outpatients Department yesterday (May 1).

Richard Kendrick, who also fundraises as “Bearjamin the Fundraising Bear”, answered a plea put out online by Lisa Holland, who works in the department.

Within minutes of Lisa asking for help, she said, Richard answered and delivered a new microwave at 4pm yesterday.

Lisa said: “I and the staff at the Royal Alexandra would like to thank Richard Kendrick for answering our plea for a new microwave.

“Ours died a death yesterday, and meant staff had nowhere to heat their dinner.

“This was donated and delivered yesterday afternoon; I have no words other than kindness still exists, and I can’t thank him enough.

“As the saying goes, not all heroes wear capes, and he’s definitely our hero.”

Richard also helped replace a pram on the neonatal ward at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan last week, after the previous one was not in a good condition.

In March, he was named the winner of the “outstanding contribution to the community” and the “Rhyl superhero” awards at the Rhyl BID Business Awards on March 5.

He is often seen in Rhyl dressed as Bearjamin, and during his two years as the town’s Poppy Appeal organiser, raised £212,835.24.

Richard said: “Team Bearjamin likes to help all local groups.

“We saw Lisa's plea for help and jumped to it. We couldn't have all these nurses not being able to eat on their long shifts.”
