A MULTI-million pound three-phase development contract has been secured for the construction of a new hybrid health and social care facility in St Asaph.

Tŷ Seren will be a 198-bed facility based at St Asaph Business Park, and will be operated by Star Units Ltd.

St Asaph-based K&C Contractors Ltd will oversee the development.

Dylan Southern, director of Star Units Ltd, said: “It is envisaged that this unique facility will be a catalyst in assisting the transformation of local health and social care services for the people of North Wales and beyond.

“All services, including step down discharge beds and a high-speed orthopaedic joint replacement service, will be available to NHS and self-funding clients.”

The new care facility is to be rolled out in three phases.

Phase one is a reablement-themed care centre, with 63 single rooms and full ensuite wet room facilities for each resident.

Its second phase will deliver a building design suited to rapid discharge orthopaedic surgery.

The third phase will be to deliver within the building a community hospital facility, with a similar design content as that of the proposed new Royal Alexandra Hospital in Rhyl.

Mr Southern added: “There is overwhelming support from surgeons, MSs, MPs, councillors, and many GP who can see the potential and impact that this facility can deliver to the region.

“It will deliver circa 200 sustainable, high value jobs after the construction phase, and inject over £25million from payroll and supply chain purchases within the local North Wales economy each year.

“Our hope is that it will ignite enthusiasm from national and international investors to develop and improve facilities for local citizens beyond our own.

“We are excited to also be working with K&C Contractors Ltd, whose head office is on the same business park.

“They have the track record, accreditations, and construction expertise to deliver for us this ground-breaking development which will be delivered to achieve BREEAM ((Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) excellence standards.”

The facility will also be providing a “career pathway” for residents to ensure it retains a commitment to Welsh culture and language.

Expressions of interest are soon to be requested from the health and social care sector from operators who may wish to work alongside Star Units Ltd in service delivery.
