A CHINESE restaurant and takeaway in Rhuddlan has bounced back from a poor hygiene rating from last year, being given the top grade after another inspection.

The popular Fei Von (formerly Prosperity), at The Old Bank, High Street, was previously given a one-out-of-five score after assessment on October 10.

At the time, the takeaway was let down by its management of food safety, which was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.

Owner Jessica Tsang said this was because they had not filled in a ‘The Safer Better Food Business Pack’, which all caterers must now adhere to, as they were unaware it could affect the score.

After a recent assessment, Fei Von was awarded a food hygiene certificate of five.

She said the new maximum score would help “restore customers’ confidence” in the business.

Ms Tsang told the Journal: “Our food and hygiene have always been kept to a very good standard. This time we filled and completed The Safer Better Food Business Pack.

“Last time we got a straight one because we had not filled in The Safer Better Food Business Pack - it’s new to us and we did not realise that it affected the score greatly.

“Having a score of five will help to restore customers’ confidence in dining with us, and hopefully will bring back lost customers.”

She said that the rating system can be misleading, as their previous score was purely down to paperwork, not actual problems with their hygiene.

She added: “People don’t realise having a one score does not mean it’s always bad hygiene.

“In our case, it is simply we had not done our new paperwork - we are now very pleased with our new rating.”
