A RHYL school is seeking volunteer fixers to support their Repair Cafe.

Ysgol Christchurch School Repair Café event takes place at Ysgol Christchurch School, on Ernest Street, Rhyl, on February 7 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

People visiting the 'café' can bring along their broken items, including toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, bikes, toys and crockery.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Anything broken (other than microwaves or white goods) is welcome, and a group of volunteer repair experts are available to help make repairs, free of charge.

"Ysgol Christchurch School Repair Café is particularly seeking volunteer fixers with skills in the following areas: electrical, sewing/textiles, bikes, IT/computers, woodwork but other more bespoke skills, such as jewellery, are also most welcome.

"The café is part of our efforts to reduce the number of items going to landfill and to save people money. You don’t need to be a professional fixer to get involved; all you need is to be confident, competent and happy to give your time to make a positive difference to the environment, and to your local community."

Hannah Penlington, of Ysgol Christchurch, said: "Every year, we throw away huge amounts in Wales, even items which have very little wrong with them, and which could easily be used again after a simple repair. Many people don’t feel confident to repair things themselves and sometimes we forget that we can have things repaired, instead of using up valuable resources by buying new items.

"As well as being better for the environment, our Repair Café aims to save people money, share precious repair skills that are being lost, and bring the local community together at a low-key, enjoyable event."

Ysgol Christchurch School are being supported by Repair Café Wales, which has established a network of volunteer-led Repair Cafes across Wales.
