A SAXOPHONIST and pianist will give a concert hosted by Rhyl Music Club in the town next month.

Huw Wiggin (saxophone) and Noriko Ogawa (piano) will perform at Rhyl Town Hall on January 31 at 7.30pm (doors 6.45pm).

Their concert will feature popular classics, as well as modern music by Andy Scott.

Stephen Leeder, of Rhyl Music Club, said: “We probably all know Debussy's Clair de Lune from an Oceans film, but you may also recognise Rachmaninov's Vocalise.

“Paganini's 24th Caprice is famous and has even been modified by Elton John and Benny Goodman.

“Iain Farrington recently wrote a series of variations on Paganini and we will have one of these - it is immediately accessible whatever your musical interests. “

Huw Wiggin has become a major figure in British saxophone performance, while Noriko is a cultural ambassador for the National Autistic Society.

Both Huw and Noriko are professors at major London music conservatoires in addition to their busy performing careers.

Since being named commonwealth musician of the year in 2014, Huw has developed a career as a virtuoso soloist, recording artist and chamber musician.

Norkiko is an internationally-respected pianist, recording artist and educator. She gives masterclasses, lectures on performance and holds several teaching posts, including at Guildhall.

Huw and Noriko have collaborated on a CD, “Rhapsody”, which includes some of the pieces you’ll hear at this concert.

Tickets cost £15 and are available from Rhyl Music Club’s website.
