RHYL residents have expressed their desire for a range of new shops to be added to their high street.

When we asked the question on Facebook, locals voiced their opinions on what types of stores they would like to see in the area.

The most popular suggestion was for a Primark - aka Primani -  store, with many residents eager for the affordable fashion retailer to open a branch in Rhyl.

Chad Jones said: "Primark would do this town wonders...for all the low income households in Rhyl it would be fantastic. I know there is one in Llandudno but the train is expensive and not everyone has a car.

Andrea Myatt Tomlin said: "The two biggies that take lots of people away from here to shop at: IKEA and Primark."

Other desired additions included nail salons, barber shops, hair salons, sunbed shops, cafes, takeaways, a tranditional butcher or fishmonger.

Some individuals longed for the return of Woolworths, while others wanted IKEA, Dunelm, Games Workshop, Boots, Superdrug, H&M, and Waitrose to move to the area.

Aggy Pawlowska said: "Would be nice to see one decent Boots or Superdrug. Rhyl has only small Boots and not enough varieties like Prestatyn."

A few individuals requested the presence of specific food establishments, such as Burger King, Nando's, Kaspas, Hickory's, and Tim Hortons.

However, there were also comments expressing a desire for a more diverse range of shops overall, including shops for toys, cosmetics, an all-in-one butcher, bakery, green grocer, and fishmonger, and a fruit and vegetable shop.

Liam Curry said: "I think the entire high street should be reworked so that every shop has a more 'retro' appearance. Like a cross between an outlet village and a quaint shopping town.

"They can't compete with the big stores and brand names of Prestatyn anymore so why not offer something different?"

Despite the varied suggestions, there were also comments lamenting the closure of many shops and the impact of online shopping on local businesses.

Some mentioned that shops such as Iceland and New Look had been closed due to changing consumer habits.

In summary, the residents of Rhyl are hoping for a revitalisation of their high street, with a mix of affordable fashion, beauty services, food establishments, and quality shops offering fresh produce and specialty items.
