Readers were asked to share photos of their tattoos along with the stories and meanings behind them.

The responses ranged from touching memorials to unconventional choices.

Sarah Martin’s tattoo of a Manchester bee serves as a poignant reminder of the 22 lives lost in the Manchester Arena bombing.

For Sonia Drescher, her tattoo is personal - it features the initials of her children translated into a Chinese symbol on her lower back.

Similarly, Pat Watterson Parry has a paw tattoo in memory of her beloved dog Bluey.

Meanwhile, Dawn Earnshaw-Middleman’s tattoo of a turtle holds a deeper meaning, as she was diagnosed with CIDP in 2008 and the turtle symbolises moving slowly but steadily through life.

Kelly Roberts opted for an orchid flower tattoo with her grandson’s name, while Vicky Whiteley has the flowers of the month her family was born.

Samantha Jade Smith’s tattoo of a lion with a crown symbolises her partner who passed away earlier this year.

His fingerprint appears within the lion’s mane and his initials are inked as well, all in addition to the use of blue in honour of his eye colour.

Dan Nield-Siddall’s tattoo is of a bus, to honour his grandfather who was a bus driver for Crossville and even drove the last bus out of the old depot.

Each tattoo offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of the individuals who chose to share their stories.

In this way, tattoos continue to reveal themselves as much more than just body art but as a form of visual storytelling.
