A North Wales town is set to be the focal point at the end of day one of a motorsport event this week.

Following the huge success of previous editions of Rally Revival, the team wanted to try something different for 2023 and have launched Rali Revival Cymru, a two-day event based at the Beaufort Park Hotel, New Brighton, just outside Mold, starting this Friday (March 10).

Top seeds John Davies and Nick Bloxham in a Ford Puma will lead the field away over what promises to be a stern test for cars and crews, as they tackle 17 special tests in a route of more than 180 miles.

Their main competition will come from the likes of locals Baz Green and Matthew Vokes in a Proton, Danny Cowell and Paul Holmberg in another Puma, along with Owen Turner and Ryan Pickering in an MG.

The classic section will be wide open, a late entry and highest seeded classic is that of Northern Irishman Will Corry in an MG Midget, however Mold crew Ken Jones and Charles Hughes in a MK1 Cortina GT, along with Keith Jenkins in a Volvo and another local crew back out after some time away in the form of father and son Roger and Leigh Powley, bringing their Hillman Imp out.

Mold is the main attraction and in a first for the town, and with support from both the town and county councils, the high street from the Cross (Chester Street) to the junction with King Street (just like on market days), will be closed to traffic between 5pm-10pm.

In place from 6pm will be a large start/finish arch, displays of various iconic rally and performance related machinery, all accompanied by knowledgeable commentary from 1996 British Rally Champion and S4C presenter, Howard Davies. Local motor club Broughton-Bretton will also be on hand to explain how to get involved and show you around some of their cars on display.

At 7pm competing cars and crews will start to arrive, sure to be somewhat muddy, and they will be parking up for people to have a good look around the kind of cars in use on this level of event.

Then at 7.45pm the cars will start to go under the arch whilst negotiating the comedic commentary of Howard and give an insight into how their day is going.

If you miss any of the action, the event will be shown on Heno on S4C Monday, March 13.
