A 27-year-old man who told police he had gone to a house to collect his children was jailed for six weeks yesterday(Wednesday) for what magistrates called a “blatant” breach of a court order imposed days earlier.

Thomas O’Donnell accepted breaching a domestic violence protection order made on April 19 for a fortnight following an alleged bust-up, while he had been drunk, with his wife Mary. Solicitor Gareth Preston, for North Wales police, said threats had been made by Mr O’Donnell and there were previous incidents. But Mrs O’Donnell didn’t view her husband as a threat.

Mr Preston said a police officer was at the family home in Berthglyd, Abergele, on Tuesday when Mr O’Donnell turned up despite the court order having been granted.

Robert Vickery, defending at Llandudno court, said Mrs O’Donnell was in court to support her husband. The couple, from Ireland, were on benefits and the children missed their father. He had returned to the property because his wife contacted him, the lawyer added.

But court chairman David Subacchi told Mr O’Donnell :”This is a blatant breach of an order imposed only a couple of days before.
