Three Denbighshire friends tackling 180-mile walk in memory of friend's mum

THREE friends will tackle a challenging 180-mile walk to raise money in memory of a St Asaph mum who died after a heart attack.

Neal Smith, Michael Wynne and Rhodri Morris will walk along the Offa’s Dyke trail, from Chepstow to Prestatyn, with the aim of keeping alive the memory of their friend’s mother Pamela Parsonage who died in 2012.

The men plan to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) because problems with Pamela's heart contributed to her death.

Michael, 28, and Rhodri, 22, are also raising money for Diabetes UK, the charity of the year for their employer Tesco.

The trio are hoping they will complete the gruelling walk in 10 days.

Mr Smith, aged 28, who works in the Plough in St Asaph, is friends with the sons of the late Mrs Parsonage – Tim, Matt and Ali.

He said: “It was Mike who sent me a text saying shall we do Offa’s Dyke soon? I replied with a certain yes. Mike and I took part in a Three Peaks challenge in June 2012 in memory of Pamela and I wanted to do more. This walk looked like the right event.

“Pamela was a great character and meant a lot to people. It will just be the three of us doing this challenge.”

More than 30 others, including Mrs Parsonage’s son Tim, took part in the Three Peaks challenge and a total of £10,000 was raised for BHF.

Mr Smith added: “A factor in Pamela’s passing was her heart, so it was a no-brainer for us to get in touch with the British Heart Foundation.

“We are all looking forward to the challenge. I’m hoping we know each other well enough and inspire each other to complete and get to Prestatyn Beach in one piece.”

Matt Parsonage, aged 25, Mrs Parsonage’s middle son, added: “Pam was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was devoted to her family and spent her life making the lives of others happier.

“Her legacy lives on in us and our friends who have took to challenges to raise awareness in her name.”

The men will be tweeting during the challenge using hashtags #walesforpam #teamforpam.
