A TOWYN woman has made the shortlist for a national blogging competition.

Karen Woodham, 44-years-old, was named as a finalist by the UK Blog Awards for her site Blazing Minds which features posts about entertainment, film reviews, music and technology.

Ms Woodham, who started her blog in September 2008, will be judged by a panel of experts.

Blazing Minds made the Events Shortlist. Other categories include Arts and Culture, Digital and Technology, Education, Travel, Wedding, Fashion and more.

Winners will be revealed at an Awards evening in April 2015.

Ms Woodham said: “When I started, it was just to see what all the fuss was about blogging at the time. After 12 months, thoughts of giving up were settling in but shortly after things started to take a turn for the website.

“A visit to, what was the Apollo Cinema, led to better things. After writing a review for a movie, I became the unofficial reviewer for the cinema’s latest releases. The reviews led to more at other venues such as the Rhyl Pavilion and Venue Cymru.

“I began covering events such as the SciFi Weekender in Pwllheli, which I now do every year, Wales Comic Con, I went back stage with Thomas Nicholas who played Kevin Myers from American Pie and his band. I’ve also had the chance to work with other artists such as Wheatus, MC Lars, Straight Jacket Legends and more.”

Ms Woodham expressed that she felt “honoured” to be shortlisted.

“I was totally over the moon when I found out,” she added.

“The site is going to be judged by some great judges. It is nice to have been recognised for what I do.

“It has been a joy to work on the Blazing Minds. It has allowed me to meet and work with some amazing people and cover events that I perhaps wouldn’t have thought of going to.”
