eBay bid for Prestatyn Loom Band Dress falls through

Staff reporter (Rhyl Journal)

AN EBAY buyer who bid a record amount for a loom band dress has pulled out of the deal.

Helen Wright and Kathryn Burnand, of Prestatyn, made the dress from 20,000 loom bands but had an email on Monday saying the deal was off.

The woman, who lives in Surrey said she could not afford the £170,100 price tag plus £7 postage.

The dress is believed to be the first of its kind and captured the attention of the world's media as it hit the headlines.

Helen, her daughter Sian and Kathryn even appeared on the One Show where comedian Lee Mack cracked a joke whilst holding the dress.

The trio also appeared on Newsround, S4C and their story was told in newspapers as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

Helen said they had really enjoyed the the "whirlwind" and still thought anything over £50 would be a bonus

Helen, a barmaid at Archies, Prestatyn, said: "I've got somebody from Ebay whose guiding us through making an offer to another bidder.

"We don't have to take the next highest bidder and Ebay said we should look at all the bidder's feedback before deciding.

"We have one chance of offering it to bidders from the last auction then we can go for a relisting.

"I've whittled it down to six buyers who all put in bids over the £150,000 mark. Ebay have said if we relist the dress we will be able to vet the bidders next time and even protect the copyright of our photos.

"I might try it for three days this time but it's a lucky dip from now on."
