INQUESTS have been opened into the deaths of two motorists who died in separate incidents.

Nicola Jones, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, opened an inquest into the death of Pensarn pensioner Brian Worthington.

The 79-year-old retired production worker was driving along the A548 Abergele – Llanfair TH road on June 25 when his Citroen left the road near Abergele Hospital and collided with a tree.

No other vehicle was involved and Mr Worthington, of Yr Encil, Pensarn, who suffered major head injuries, was certified dead at the scene.

Another inquest was opened into Gary William Ratcliffe, a 41-year-old pharmacist, of High Street, Manchester, killed when his campervan collided with a barrier and plunged down an embankment on the A55 at Rhuallt Hill on June 22.

Mr Ratcliffe was driving in the westbound lane when the collision occurred and no other vehicle was involved.

A post-mortem examination found that he suffered major trauma and was certified dead at the scene.

Mrs Jones adjourned both inquests to dates in December.
