Torrential downpours could cause flooding in North East Wales

Matt Jones

WARNINGS of potential flooding in North East Wales have been issued as heavy rain is expected this weekend.

Natural Resources Wales is asking people to be alert for flooding with heavy rain expected to affect Wales overnight Friday into Saturday.

There is also a risk of localised torrential downpours during the first half of Saturday after the Met Office forecast the heaviest downpours will most likely affect parts of North East Wales.

This could cause localised flooding of roads, and flooding from drains, ditches and small streams and that there is also a risk torrential downpours could cause smaller, faster responding rivers to rise.

Natural Resources Wales will issue Flood Alerts and Warnings if rivers reach trigger levels but at this stage they have said given the rainfall forecasts, they do not expect large slower responding rivers to be affected.

People travelling on Saturday are advised to take extra care and allow extra time for their journey as driving conditions may be hazardous.

Natural Resources Wales is also advising people to keep an eye on weather reports and local news for details of any disruption in their area.

Flood alerts and flood warnings are updated on the Natural Resources Wales website every 15 minutes and are available to view at
